The Walking Dead: Book Sixteen

Honestly.... I wasn't disappointed. I had NO IDEA how this series was ever going to end, but Robert Kirkman pulled it off very well. It wasn't what I was necessarily expecting, but that's a good thing. I wanted something off the beaten path, that still felt fitting for a series that I have been invested in for nearly a decade. I really enjoyed the author's note at the end as well. Overall I am glad I stuck by this series. I really got invested in the characters and their journey to find life instead of just survival. One of a kind and I'm sad to see it end, but it's time. Great job Robert Kirkman, that ending got me a little choked up!!

Walking Dead: Book Fifteen

Dayum! A lo happens in this installment. Not only do we need a spunky new character, we meet a whole damn new community! Rick is still reeling from the loss of Andrea, Carl is still pining after his new little girlfriend leaving poor Sophia behind in the dust, Maggie may have a new fuck buddy, Jesus and Aaron are officially out and open, and Neegan is out on his own with permission from Rick. Hilltop is slowly rebuilding after the devastation from the last book and a small group of people from Alexandria ride out to meet the people that Eugene has been talking to on the radio for weeks. All in all, there are a lot of plot lines, a lot of action, and it's damn fun! I especially love Princess, the wild girl they encounter in the city. She reminds me a lot of Tank Girl. Another great installment and I feel like it may be leading us up to a conclusion? Probably not, but you never know!

Walking Dead: Book Fourteen

Another stunning addition to the Walking Dead collection. I'll admit it took me a minute to gather my bearings and remember what happened in book thirteen since it had been quite a while since I had read it, but it did come back rather quickly. This book follows the ongoing battle with the whisperers (who are creepy as fuck!) and we see a huge growth in Negan's character. Not only is he finally free but he is working with Rick and is seemingly on his side! Is this a long term ploy? Probably, but right now it seems pretty damn convincing. We have one major character death and a massive zombie herd coming straight at Alexandria.Overall, pretty damn good. I can't wait for book fifteen!

Here's Negan

Here's Negan FINALLY gives us the backstory that we've been craving for, for so long! It's not anything like I expected, but honestly I don't know what I was expecting. In this short comic we find out that Negan was in fact a gym teacher, as well as a smart mouthed, cheating, asshole husband. He changes his tune though when his wife is diagnosed with cancer and he tries to become a better person and is for once, completely devoted to her. While she is dying in the hospital the zombie apocalypse occurs and slowly we begin to see bits of Negan that we know and love, emerge. He didn't become a bad-ass over night, but he still came around pretty quickly. A must read for all Walking Dead fans.

The Walking Dead Book Thirteen

After the brutal conclusion to book twelve I was wondering where this series was headed. Alexandria wants revenge on the whisperers for taking out twelve of their people but Rick wants to formulate a plan which makes everyone hate him and call him a coward. Meanwhile, Neegan escapes, Eugene starts talking to some mysterious person through the radio, and Carl is getting down with Lydia. The conclusion was seriously badass and I didn't see it coming. I love this series and I already can't wait until book fourteen is released!!

Outcast - Volume 1: A Darkness Surrounds Him

I wasn't sure what to expect since I had only ever read The Walking Dead series, but this was pretty awesome. It hooked me enough that I definitely want to continue reading it. It's very dark and deals with demonic possession. Kyle Barnes has had to put up with demonic possession his whole life and he's sick of it. It has taken everything good away from him. Determined to get some answers he teams up with a local priest, but little do they know the damage their meddling could do. Apparently it's also going to be a tv show. Color me intrigued!  

The Walking Dead: Book Twelve

Holy cow, just when I think I can't be shocked anymore, Walking Dead punches me right in the guts and laughs in my face. Damn, this one was brutal. It started off a little slow, Carl has some anger issues, finds a lady friend and... "becomes a man." Maggie has some crap to deal with at her camp and Rick wrestles with his humanity. Why is he really keeping Neegan alive? Underlying this whole book is a new threat, the whisperers, and they are even creepier then you could imagine. Seriously, this is the stuff that nightmares are made of. The ending... sigh. Awful. I don't want to have to wait to see what happens in the next installment!

The Walking Dead: Book Eleven

Book Ten showcased the massive war between Negan and the saviors and this books highlights the after effects. After Alexandria is destroyed, the remaining communities unite for one last stand against the Saviors. They are enraged at how unfair Negan has been fighting (he was infecting all their weapons with walker blood to infect and kill all the wounded) and decide to take him down once and for all. The aftermath of their war leads to the biggest status quo change that we've seen soo far. Shit is on the mend. The only problems are little problems. Too much good may be occurring, I fear what book twelve will bring. This much peace and prosperity cannot last!

The Walking Dead: Book Ten

Ahhhhhh!!! I waited forever for this installment and it still left me hanging!! Why must you do this to me Robert Kirkman!! I was all ready for the epic war between Negan and Rick, and I wrongly assumed it would all be settled in this volume, but no! Neither can seem to get the upper hand on the other! This collection is filled with attacks and counter attacks and (SPOILER!) the death of the only animal we've been introduced to, Shiva. Still bitter about that. They finally get a cool, viscous pet tiger and BAM the damn zombies take him down.

Another great installment, I literally cannot wait for the next one. I am so impatient!

The Walking Dead: Book Nine

I spoke too soon in my last review of the previous Walking Dead installment, shit just got real. Just when I think the gang might be able to catch a break, PSYCH! let the awfulness continue. We know have a new crazy psycho enemy in the picture and he just might be worse than the governor, hard to believe right? Wrong, this guy is plain crazy. We are also introduced to another community, a seemingly good one, albeit crazy. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment when it comes out in the fall. I must know what happens!!!

The Walking Dead: Book Eight

Things are on the mend and a little quiet in this one. Which is nice, the gang needs a break from murderous zombies and ruthless humans looking for a place to crash. While it's not as violent as some of the other installments it's still heavy. It's raw and gritty, and deals with the emotional trauma of the survivors. Carl wakes up from his coma, the community sets about rebuilding and fortifying their home away from the zombies, and they have a new guest, Jesus.

As always, great stuff and I can't wait to see where the next one picks up as this one ended on an exciting note.

The Walking Dead: Book Seven

There are some new characters and new problems, but nothing that the gang isn't prepared to fix. Their new community is too promising to let anything get in the way of keeping it thriving so they are working together to try and keep it ship shape and free of zombies. As always, Rick is working on being the best leader he can be. He's already cracked a few times but I'm truly wondering how much longer he can hold on for.He has such a burden on his shoulders. Another great installment for the Walking Dead franchise.

The Walking Dead: Book Six

As always another great installment in the Walking Dead franchise. Just when we think all help is lost things appear to be on the up and up... appear.... Dark and gritty yet masterfully crafted, this book will have you questioning human nature and what separates humans from the monsters... clearly not our humanity.

I can't wait for this show to catch up, this comic was destined to be an amazing television show.

The Walking Dead: Book Five

This is about where the last season of the Walking Dead ended, we have some new characters, some new problems (Rick! the phone? really??), and as always lots and lots of death. These poor guys can't even catch a break! No matter what they do, hell seems to be right on their heels, I can't wait to see where it goes from here! For fans of the tv show and zombies.

The Walking Dead: Book Four

Just when you think everything is finally going to be ok... BAM. It's not! Things just get progressively worse for the survivors of the zombie apocalypse. The sad thing is the zombies aren't even the scariest thing out there anymore, sometimes it's just the other people. For mature audiences, this series continues to get darker and more gruesome. For fans of the tv show and zombies.

The Walking Dead: Book Three

What can I say about this series that I haven't already said? It's fantastic! This third collection gets extra dark and violent as we encounter the governor for the first time. Let's just say they tamed down his character A LOT for the tv adaptation. Which is completely understandable... because the governor is completely batshit crazy!

For fans of zombies, end of the world scenarios, graphic novels, and dark, violent storylines :)

The Walking Dead. Book Two

Man, you gotta love comics, especially ones that feature the Walking Dead. If you're a fan of the show, you'll love the comics. If you're a fan of the comics, chances are you'll love the show. It's amazing that AMC was able to turn such a stunning set of comics into an amazing tv series that follows along the original story line (pretty well) and even amplifies the human suffering and the emotional toll it takes on the survivors. It's gritty, gory, and addicting. What are you waiting for?!

A must read for fans of Zombies, comics, or the tv show.

The Walking Dead: Book One

It's been a few years since I read this, so it was good to get a refresher course on the zombies while I'm watching watching the current season of The Walking Dead. Obviously it's a great comic and an amazing show. I don't mind that there are a lot of changes from the original comic, it's coming into it's own. It's gritty, terrifying, and horribly insightful to human nature. The black and white illustrations really show how bleak the situation is (amazing art by the way). A must read for zombie fans and fans of the AMC show.
