Essential Sports Nutrition

Whether you're an avid athlete working out five hours a day or a yoga enthusiast working out a few days a week, Essential Sports Nutrition has a little something for everyone. While it can be a little dense and "sciencey" in areas, the after chapter summaries do a great job outlining all the key points and takeaways. This book includes recipes, tips on how and what to fuel up on, how to create a meal plan that works for your body and your unique active lifestyle, and so much more. It's a comprehensive guide that manages to not get too overwhelming. Reading this opened my eyes to so many factors that can affect your health and diet such as time of year, bodily changes, types of food, etc. This book will definitely inspire you to make healthy changes. Even incremental steps are better than no steps at all! A must own guide for anyone that is remotely active, there are no fad diets, or sketchy meal plans, everything is science based!

25 Greatest Sports Stories in the History of Indiana

A monumental and impressive collection on what makes Indiana special and unique... sports. Lovingly curated and written, this coffee table book compiles twenty five of the greatest sports stories in Indiana (out of hundreds, whittling the list down must have been a nightmare!). When outsiders think of Indiana the first two things that pop to mind are basketball and the Indy 500. Behind that you'll get the Colts and the Pacers and Notre Dame and IU; but the most iconic imagery anyone can muster up about this great state ALWAYS centers on sports. And that isn't a problem, it just makes Hoosiers unique. When the treasury minted new quarters, one for each state; Indiana was the only state that featured a sports symbol, the race car. Even Naismith, the inventor of the game basketball said, "Basketball really had its origin in Indiana, which remains the center of the sport." 9 out of the largest 10 basketball gymnasiums in the world are found in Indiana. No matter where you go in the state, you cannot escape basketball hoops, they're lovingly placed on garages, barns, parks, dead ends, and anywhere they can fit. This collection covers sports heroes, venues, teams, and coaches; from Franklin's Wonder Five to Bob Knight to the Zeller family to the Milan Miracle. It's a wonderful tribute and is a must own for every Hoosier!

This is Your Brain on Sports

I may not be an avid sports watcher, but I'm certainly becoming an avid sports reader! I'm certainly a novice when it comes to the world of sports, I only know a little, but if you give me a good book to read or an inspiring sports movie I suddenly transform into the biggest fan. This book had me hooked, I will gladly be a little cheerleader for this book, it was utterly fascinating! From underdogs to the attractiveness of quarterbacks to professional athletes making bad coaches and the t shirt cannon. This book discusses the science behind so many things that we don't even really bother to think about. It's truly eye opening. I learned so much about rivalries, effort justification, hot headedness and more. Even though it's nonfiction, it reads easy and is never overwhelming. Each chapter discusses a new topic and there are plenty of charts and funny asides to get readers laughing and thinking. Loved, loved, loved this book!

I received this book for free from the Blogging for Books in return for my honest, unbiased opinion.

A History of American Sports in 100 Objects

I found this book to be fascinating, well written, and utterly engrossing. I thought it would be all about football, baseball, and men but I was pleasantly surprised to see that all sports were represented and there was a good number of women present too. Items ranged from the modern football, the nike waffle iron, the gold club used on the moon, CTE brain scans, Immaculata's basketball uniforms and more. Each item gave an overview of the sport, player or players, pertinent history, and how it helped define American sports. I enjoyed this book so much that I want to buy it. I learned soo  much about so many different things. A great read for sports fans, history buff, and Jeapordy afficianados.

Fantasy Sports

A beautifully illustrated romp through magical kingdoms, treasure hunters, and the greatest challenge ever, basketball. Wiz, a young explorer/intern, tags along with Mean Mug, a muscular no-nonsense treasure hunter. Together they enter the tomb of a mummy looking for treasure to bring back to work. Once inside they must accept the mummy's challenge or remain with the skeletons in the arena. It's just their luck that the mummy is a huge basketball fan. Do they have a chance? Cute graphic novel that takes virtually no time to read. Great illustrations!
