Watchmen

This book keeps getting better like a fine wine. This is probably the sixth time I've re-read it and damn... it's just soo badass. I love everything about it, the dialogue, the characters, the plot, the stories within a story. It is and always will be my favorite graphic novel. The characters are all so complex and wonderful, even though they're flawed as shit, you have to root for them. Watchmen is an anti-superhero novel about men in masks and what it takes to save  a world that may not always be worth saving. It's dark, complex, and gritty. I was even blown away by the movie adaptation; even though they changed the ending, the casting is perfect and some of the  scenes are frame by frame from the graphic novel. I can't recommend this book enough. Just read it already!

Saga of the Swamp Thing

I'm a sucker for Alan Moore so I figured it was high time I got around to reading this. Also, I've never read any Swamp Thing, so I was overdue in checking this out. I very much enjoyed this collection! This volume contains issues 20 through 27 and first debuted in the eighties. Not only is the writing stellar but the illustrations speak for themselves. Swamp Thing is breathtakingly haunting and watching him battle for his humanity sucks the reader right in. When Swamp Thing discovers his origins and realizes he may not be who he thought he was, he essentially gives up and it takes some crazy circumstances to motivate him from his earthly slumber. I'll definitely be reading more after this. I'm hooked!

V for Vendetta

I loved this graphic novel and am ashamed it took me so long to get to. It was truly a groundbreaking work of art. I recall seeing the movie back in high school but I didn't really remember it so reading this book was like seeing the movie for the first time, all fresh. In a dystopian society where half the world has been bombed into oblivion, England has been holding on, but at what cost. Run now by a correct "big brother-esque" government, no one is safe. Everyone is spied on and all minorities are disposed of. Sick of how corrupt and evil life has become, a man in a mask decides to set things straight and take on the government. A truly fantastic graphic novel, and a must read!

Batman: The Killing Joke

I don't know what took me soo long to read this classic. Alan Moore is a legend and this book definitely lives up to his reputation. This comic showcases the Joker's madness as he tries to drive the Commissioner Gordon insane by shooting his daughter and then taking him to a carnival of horrors. Throughout the comic we learn about the Joker's troubled past and why he is the way he is. With Batman's help, Gordon is able to stay strong and fight the insanity. Together they must try to defeat the Joker once and for all. Visually stunning.
